Health

  • Mobility work – I’ve made some strides in this area but want to keep using all the following tools to improve my mobility and flexibility: Chiropractor, Stretchlab, Flexbuddy, Yoga Body, Physmodo
    • Recap: Good! I started the quarter stretching every night before bed and want to get back to that. Even if just 5 minutes it will compound. I also need to focus more on stretching before and after exercise. Additionally I “splurged” on a PRP injection that I’m hoping will fix some of my symptoms.
  • Moderate my phone usage – Decreased screen time maybe 15% last quarter but the trackers say i’m around 5 hours a day. I think that’s a little misleading but still something I want to improve.
    • A few things I’m going to try out:
      • Keeping my phone in my backpack during the work day
      • Keeping my phone away from me while I’m home
      • Swapping phone with Kindle for reading
      • Maybe sleeping with phone phone in the other room which seems scary but worth a try
      • Limiting social media to 45 mins a day
    • Recap: Pretty good with this but room for improvement. Keeping the phone away from me is a huge unlock that still feels a bit weird. Mentally I now find being super responsive something I’m trying to avoid so still room for growth in this area.
  • Continue Headspace streak – Just crossed 100 days in a row and want to keep that going as long as I can. Mostly listen to this on my commute or in transit and wondering if it would be more effective doing in silence and quiet with my eyes closed so will give that a try or two
    • Recap: Streak is around 160ish as of end of Q3, very proud of this and will continue. Even just 1-3 minutes a day definitely helps slow things down.
  • Keep steps above 8000 per day – In April I was averaging 5,500 steps a day by May that was 7,200 and in June just crossed a daily average of 8100. Beating that sounds like a lot but i’m certainly going to try. I’ve started watching TV on a treadmill which helps me get some steps in and also trying to get my Zone 4/5 Cardio numbers up
    • Recap: Crushed this! Hovering around 9000 steps per day which is extra impressive given I had to take some time off for PRP injections
  • Stealth 275 – My numbers are dropping based on working frequently from the office but I am seeing gains and want to keep the progress going.
    • Recap: Hit 300 for this quarter which was very hard given how frequently I’m in the office. Traveling a bunch in Q4 so will drop the target a bit.

Wealth

  • Continue to work with my assistant – I’m now ~2 months into working with an assistant who helps me 10-20 hours a week and she’s fantastic. Many of the tasks I give her are ad hoc which means each week I’m coming up with a list. I need to develop larger books of work and a backlog for her to work on and make time to manage and action the things she sends my way. Trying to find the sweet spot between giving her tasks that don’t require my input / actioning but often the barrier is access and giving her inbox/Linkedin access doesn’t feel right quite yet so thinking through that
    • Recap: Definitely progress in the area and working on chunking out more time of my week to review the work that my assistant does. I am definitely the bottle neck and need to get better here.
  • Money review and proactive planning – My wife and I are due for a quarterly review of our finances. We do a light weight review of spending across major categories and adjust where appropriate. More importantly, I want to spend some time exploring more active investments like Mainshares, Percent, Real Estate etc and anything that would let us own a thing or a business vs. passive funds.
    • Recap: We did not do this but will do in Q4
  • Experiment with more AI tools – I’m now a daily user of Perplexity which I find to be markedly better than Google Search. Want to expand my reps on other tools including: Vercel, Replit, Cursor, Google AI Studio and others. Part of this is driven by wanting to stay ahead but part of this is very much driven by AI Doom and Gloom. I worry about the working world and white collar work in an AI first world and what it means for me long term.
    • Recap: Using Perplexity multiple times a day for personal things and trying to ramp up my usage of both Microsoft Copilot and my client’s proprietary LLM tool. It is not yet a habit. Also will carve out more time to use tools in Q4 as i worry I’ll fall behind

Highlights

  • Scott’s Pizza Tour & Spa Day with my wife
  • Watching my father end his term as President of my childhood temple
  • Powerpoint night with friends – We had 3 couples over and each gave a 5-10 min talk about their day jobs. Both fun and educational, highly recommend.
  • Go live of my work project – We’ve been supporting this thing since start of the year and it was so nice to see the entire team’s success. This has been a different project as I’m supporting a physical thing in the real world vs. my normal stuff which is software/financial services based
  • Vibe check in Raleigh Durham – We worked and lived in Raleigh for about a week to see if its somewhere we might want to move to. Isn’t it the cards for the immediate future but definitely something we would consider down the road. We also saw Mumford & Sons at a lawn concert which was a treat
  • Successful IVF round – all credit to my wife for going through another round of egg retrieval. We were very pleased with the results compared to last time
  • Chef Competition at Hudson Table – similar to Iron Chef and we got to be the judges of the meals and crown a winner. Highly recommend.
  • Best of Hans Zimmer Concert
